What did people think of 2008?

"After dancing for many many years, competition events for me have started to feel stale and monotonous. It is usually the same mix of dancers who win the top prizes and most new blood or innovation from different dancers or styles is swept under the rug. Lone Star Championships was like a breath of fresh air to that stale competition world. I was able to watch and participate in an event that encouraged new blood and individual dancing along with spirit and enthusiasm. This helped to create an atmosphere of comraderie and spirt that made you feel like you were a part of something, whether a competitor or not."
-- Seth Dietzel, Tampa FL

"The Lone Star Championships offered a little bit of everything that the Austin lindy hop scene has to offer in an environment designed to be inclusive for all levels of dancers. Bonus gifts, included in the weekend pass, were: unique venues, southern hospitality and spring-like weather in the middle of winter."
-- Ronni Dewey, Denver CO

"Lone Star Championships totally changed the Austin scene. It inspired advanced and beginner dancers alike to really work on their dancing -- thereby expanding the scope of the scene. A very tightly run event :)"
-- Laura Glaess, Austin TX

"What made the event fantastic for me was the overall friendless and hospitality that the out of towners were given. The event staff, teaching staff, and locals, were approachable (or they would approach me first!), easy to talk to, and friendly, which made the dances even more fun. It really felt like you had a team of people with the mission of getting to know out of towners. It was great."
-- Jenna Stworzyjanek, Chicago IL

"The 2008 Lone Star Championships was a GREAT weekend of competition, social dance, performances and classes! I felt the competition structure was very welcoming and enjoyable for those of us who were new to the competition scene. The live bands at the dances were amazing - I hope they are back again in 2009! Anyone who wants a great competitive experience should definitely attend this event. The Fed is a beautiful venue with a great dance floor - the afterhours blues venue was cool too!"
-- Lee McAfee, Dallas TX

"I really enjoyed the band and the contests... I'll definately be coming back to this event!"
-- Shannon Jabczynski, Dallas TX

"Lone Star rocked!"
-- Sabrina Vega, Austin TX

"Thank you so much again for the wonderful experience I had at the competition! What fun! I don't know how ya'll coordinated such a seemingly flawless and fabulous first-time event!"
-- Demetra Hughes, College Station TX

"Lone Star was alot of fun and we're looking forward to next year. Regardless of skill level or if you were competing, everyone's main priority was to just listen to some swinging live music and have a great time on the dance floor. We enjoyed that awesome atomsphere."
-- Mark Rostedt, Austin TX

"If you asked me I will say that Lone Star was the most success dance event. It was well organized and there was not a dull moment. I had never seen so many smiles on peoples faces than at that amazing weekend. I also knew then that nothing else could duplicate it, not even Lindyfest."
-- Stevenson Nwokenkwo, Houston TX
